1. DTP – Desktop publishing
DTP generally describes the layout design of publications, such as brochures, catalogs, or magazines.The target language translation may be longer or shorter than the source language. This can lead to the layout of the source file no longer matching the text length of the translation. The layout of a file must therefore be adapted after translation, taking the source file into account. This process is also described as DTP.
2. Typesetting check
During a typesetting check, such layout considerations as punctuation, word divisions, fonts, formatting, and the correct labeling of graphics and language-specific characters are checked after the DTP. Ideally, a native speaker translator should perform the typesetting check.
The typesetting check should not be confused with proofreading, which involves checking grammar and spelling as well as reviewing the content.
