Differences between ePI and PI

What are the differences between electronic product information and conventional product information?

Electronic product information (ePI) differs from conventional product information (PI) in several ways.

Conventional product information

Electronic product information

Format and structure

Usually unstructured and available as static PDF files or printed package leaflets. Provided in a structured, machine-readable format based on the HL7 FHIR standard.
Updates and availability Physical documents need to be replaced in order to implement updates, and this can be time-consuming. Allows for immediate updates and ensures that patients and medical professionals always have access to the latest information.
Accessibility andease of use Can be hard to access for certain user groups, such as visually impaired people. Offers improved readability, the ability to integrate multimedia content, and easier access for various user groups.
Integration into digital systems Not designed for integration into electronic health systems. Can be integrated seamlessly into electronic health records and other digital platforms, improving efficiency and information flow in the healthcare sector.

In summary, as a modern, flexible and user-friendly alternative to conventional product information, ePI is better able to meet the demands of the digital age.
